I’m pedaling to empower women and girls around the world.

Thank you for viewing my fundraising page. I'm raising money again this year to give World Bicycle Relief the resources they need to achieve their mission of delivering rugged, dependable Buffalo bicycles to individuals in global developing communities. The program's efficacy is impressive: school attendance goes up, healthcare providers visit more patients, and independent farmers bring more product to markets.

I've set a fundraising goal of 25 Buffalo bicycles this year ($4,125), and one-day ride goal of 250 miles (400 km). I'll start riding early in the morning on 1 June and post periodic updates on Instagram.

I am extremely grateful for your support. Thank you!

Ride Recap

Monday 3rd Jun

The Pedal to Empower 2024 event is a wrap. I finished the 250 mile ride yesterday afternoon after 16 hours in the saddle. My folks came down to provide support and a delicious lasagna post-ride meal. My fundraiser brought in $2,553 of the $4,125 goal, but it's open for the rest of the day. 🤞🏼

I made a checklist of more than 60 items. I don't do a lot of night riding, so I put a lot of effort into preparing. The weather was 55 - 65 °F and drizzly, which was fine with arm and knee warmers while riding, but chilly when stopped. Visibility through beads of water on my glasses and low fog was a challenge. I tried to minimize surprises by riding a route that I've done many times before.

I rode a S-Works Roubaix SL8 with SRAM Red AXS groupset. It's not a plush ride, but comfortable enough. I had two rear tire punctures during the ride, and didn't even notice but for the small amount sealant that sprayed out before it healed.

My parents came down in their RV to support me at the start/finish. Having a hot cup of coffee and homemade cookies at sunrise after cycling through the night was amazing.

I am extremely grateful for the support I've received this year. I'm considering a 24-hour challenge next time. How far do you think I can ride?

The Route

Saturday 1st Jun
I will start riding tonight at 9:00 PM from Port Hueneme. I'll make two trips up to Santa Barbara and down to Malibu for a total of 250 miles. It should take about 17 hours to complete.

I've got a trunk full of cookies and energy gels. My folks are bringing down a cooler of Mexican Coke and watermelon, and a post-ride lasagna!
