Pedal to Empower

Pedal to Empower

My Activity Tracking

I’m pedaling to empower women and girls around the world.

I am thrilled to share that I am helping to change lives through the Power of Bicycles! I'm raising funds and awareness for World Bicycle Relief, a global nonprofit organization committed to helping individuals overcome the barrier of distance in developing communities around the world.

I'm aiming to ride as many kilometres as I can possibly do in a 24 hour period starting sometime very early 4 June and finishing before I fall asleep! Fingers crossed for good weather!

Please consider supporting me as I work to empower women and girls through the Power of Bicycles. Every donation makes a difference, and a contribution of 155 CHF helps put a brand-new Buffalo Bicycle into the hands of a person in need!

Thank you for your support.

Thanks to you

Sunday 5th Jun
Thanks to everyone for all your support and encouragement. 195 km between 6am and 9:45pm. To date 1404 chf raised. almost 9.5 bikes!!
These bikes will give girls an opportunity to access education, and women to work. A bike will give them safety and more time to do other things - for their families, their communities or for themselves. And a bike that gives someone access to education gives them a chance to break the poverty cycle.
I also the recipient of this Pedal to Empower campaign. The challenge that I set my self was beyond ambitious! But although not riding 24 hours (I mean really, the saddle was uncomfortable, my knee was creaking, my hands ached on the return!) I feel I accomplished something and I saw it in one of the most beautiful places - The Chablais, the Swiss Riviera, the UNESCO Lavaux Vineyards, the Mittel land and the Swiss Plateau.
Everyone should get out there and ride in this place.
Cheers from Yvette and the Grand Tours Project team

Partial decision made

Thursday 2nd Jun
So the weather has been unpredictable. First I was going to ride on Saturday, then it looked like Friday...now the decision is to go back to the original day - Saturday. Still a risk of a storm and rain but better than Friday according to MetoeSwiss. Obviously this could change!
My next decision is when to start...thinking Saturday 12:01am as it gets light around 5am (only 5 hours of dark) and it will be dark again around 9:30-45 pm (only 2-3 hours of riding in the dark).
The big question remains....can I stay awake and ride safely? BUT when I consider what girls and young women need to do and do not have the luxury of choosing when to ride/ walk in order to go to school, to do their family chores or to go to work; then I am more determined to complete this ride.
Hopefully you can all get out there and ride in their name and promote WBR. If you can't then go to the website and read more about what WBR does and maybe consider sponsoring me to help buy bikes to help empower girls and women in less fortunate countries.

Tuesday 31st May
Hey everyone
This weekend the weather looks...frankly awful!  So I am thinking to ride a day earlier to avoid the rain and cold weather.
My biggest questions are:
Which bike to ride? Road bike or gravel bike?
What time to start? midnight? 4 am?
How on earth am I to stay awake ?
Who's got a front porch for me to nap on along my route?
Do I have a route yet?
So many questions, so little time!
But most important, friends have been so generous and the money raised so far is over 800 chf. Looks like our target will be reached. well done and thank you everyone.

Thank you to my Supporters
